Pittsburgh Steelers Fashion Recap
Last fall, the Pittsburgh Steelers launched a new, more fashionable line of fan clothing mainly marketed toward their many female fans. The line includes lots of big fashion names, with apparel from Tommy Bahama, Nike Golf, and Victoria’s Secret. There are also Pandora jewelry charms with Pittsburgh Steelers themes.
The team’s new site will feature items that the players are wearing, as well as feature a contest where fans wear Steelers gear on the Fridays before games, submit a photo, and could then win a whole Steelers wardrobe.
The new fan gear is part of the organization’s attempt to connect better with fans, starting with a mobile friendly website, according to the team’s new director of strategic planning Susan McGalla. The new fan clothing appeals to a wider range of fans, including neon pink and yellow for little girls and metallic gold and sparkles for female fans with a “girly” side. There are also more work appropriate pieces for men.
Susan McGalla was a wise choice for this position because of her professional background in retail. She formerly worked as the president of American Eagle Outfitters and CEO of Wet Seal, so she knows trendy fashion. She understands the importance of branding and marketing based on fan’s feedback and is using that knowledge for the team’s benefit.
